Description
Before you begin use if this detector familiarize yourself with the parts and setup. If you have any questions, please contact Contrail Rockets. This Vent Detector is designed for Internally Vented motors. The vent line needs to exit the motor through the combustion chamber. This allows the Vent Detector to be installed to the new open vented motors or the old-style vent restrictor used on bolted 75mm 98mm and 152mm hybrid motors. An 1/8 to 1/8 PTC coupler is used on motors that do not require a restrictor. On motors requiring a restrictor you need to thread your vent restrictor into the 1/8 brass pipe coupler and 1/8 PTC. While filling your motor the vented gas exits the detector. When the motor is filled, and liquid begins to exit the motor the detector will notify you that the motor is now full signaling with a strobe and horn. A benefit of this system is that the motor is venting upon ignition into the combustion chamber thus slowing the venting process. In addition, any Nitrous Oxide vented after ignition is used in the combustion process. Note that if you are using the vent detector on a top vent motor that vents out the side of the rocket you will have to use a line cutter to cut the vent line exiting the rocket when the motor is ignited. Your fire circuit thus serves two functions to ignite the motor and also cut the vent line.
You can see the Vent detector in action on my YouTube page.
The Vent detector operates on 12 volts. The Vent detector is independent of any fill and fire system. A ten foot electrical cord with positive and negative alligator clips is included. Also included is a six foot long reusable 1/8 inch nylon line and 1/8 PTC coupler to connect your vent detector to the rocket motor vent line. Note a cable cutter/line cutter is required to cut the line as it exists the rocket. You can download the users manual from our site.
Includes 50 Inch Tripod to see over obstacles.
